Open ZI File
A ZI file is a renamed .ZIP file with the 'P' removed from the end, so that the file cannot be accidentally expanded by double-clicking.
ZIP (and ZI) is basically a concept used in computing to name certain storage formats, whether physical or virtual.
At the software level, the ZIP is used for data compression (text documents, images, programs, etc.) without loss of quality.
Its creator, the programmer Phil Katz (founder of PKWARE), at the time had to face a lawsuit for the violation of copyright in the development of the format.
The ZIP format, and therefore ZI, uses various compression algorithms and supports an encryption system that is based on a unique key.
Critics consider this encryption weak and vulnerable to different types of computer attacks.
These types of ZI files are useful for bypassing antivirus programs when sent via email.
The latter must be handled with care, as a ZI file can be vulnerable to hackers, viruses, Trojans, and malware.
ZI files can be renamed back to ZIP files and then unpacked, retaining all of their features.
ZI files are created when a user compresses one or more files as in the ZIP format but then renames the ZIP extension to ZI.
Software to open and work with a ZI file
If you receive a ZI file, and you fully trust the sender of the file,
simply rename the extension to ZIP and open it with a Zip compression
