Open TRASHES File

A TRASHES file is actually a directory created by the macOS desktop operating system to specifically store files that are marked for deletion but have not yet been deleted. Generally speaking, the file is a list of files to delete.

These appear on USB flash drives that connect to a macOS computer.

TRASHES files could be classified as non-essential system files, they are hidden inside the USB flash drive and are created when a user moves files to the recycle bin on macOS, but has not yet emptied that bin, which would, in any case, delete them from files permanently.

However, if the USB flash drive is connected to a Windows operating system, the file can be made visible and you can simply double-click the TRASHES file to open it in the same way that you would open a folder.

By doing this, you can recover any file that is included there, as long as it has not been permanently deleted.

To permanently delete the files, simply delete the file (directory) TRASHES.

If a user needs to free up space on his USB flash drive, he can delete the TRASHES file or simply empty the recycle bin on the macOS computer where the files were initially deleted.
