Open PUZ File
PUZ extension files are used in two different applications, namely:
Across Lite Crossword Puzzle
In this application, the PUZ files are playable or printable electronic crosswords, via Across Lite software.
In this case, the PUZ file contains a single puzzle that can be completed by the user, and they are classified as game files.
These PUZ files are normally provided by the New York Times among others.
These files are usually available as daily free downloads for premium
subscribers and their name is identified with the date, for example:
jul2621-1.puz
PUZ files are a proprietary format, therefore they can only be opened with Across Lite, which is available as a free download, meaning manual opening of PUZ files is not recommended.
Packed Publisher
In this case, the PUZ files are a compressed publication created by Microsoft Publisher's Pack and Go.
PUZ is, par excellence, a standard Publisher document, containing multimedia files, text and others, common in a publication, which facilitates transfer to other computers.
PUZ files can be expanded and opened using Unpack (Unpack.exe), which is included with Microsoft Publisher.
To work with a PUZ file, you must ensure its format, and have one of the following software packages:
