Open ODT File

ODT file extension is used by Open Document Text files that are created by the OpenOffice software suite. These files contain word processing documents. Open Document Format is XML based and therefore easily portable. You can open ODT files by several programs other than Open Office. These include: NeoOffice, Corel WordPerfect, Lotus Symphony, Google Docs online service.

Please note that Open Document Format used in ODT files is different from "Office Open XML" which is used by Microsoft Office (.DOCX) and "Open Document Architecture" (.RDO)

File Microsoft Office doesn't provide native support and cannot open ODT files but there exists an "ODF add-in for Word". This project was originally started as Open XML translator and is currently maintained by several Microsoft partners on SourceForge.net
