Open ODB File

An ODB extension file contains a database created by Apache OpenOffice Base (OOBase), an open source desktop relational database program.

OOBase is a multifunctional desktop database management system, its purpose ranges from very personal use, such as inventory of kitchen utensils, to the production of monthly corporate reports of departmental sales.

In this case, an ODB extension file stores a set of data that make up the database and is formatted according to the OpenDocument standard.

ODB files are used to save structured information such as tables and records.

OpenDocument databases in ODB contain a collection of files and folders that are compressed into a single file.

They include the settings.xml, context.xml, and manifest.xml files, as well as a database folder that contains the following files:

  1. Properties: stores the database configuration
  2. Script: contains the definitions of the tables
  3. Data: contains the current state of the database
  4. Backup: stores a compressed backup of the last consistent state of the database
  5. Log: record changes to the database

To manually browse the contents of an ODB file, change the ODB file extension to ZIP and unzip the file with any Zip decompression utility.
