In this first case, the BIX file is a game file created by 'Sid Meier's Civilization III' (Civ3), an empire-building strategy game.
Sid Meier's Civilization III is a series of turn-based strategy video games developed by Firaxis Games and distributed by Infogrames.
As the name suggests, it is the third installment in the Civilization series.
Within the game, the BIX file serves several functions, which can be a saved game or a scenario that describes the conditions of the world in which the player plays against other empires.
BIX files are also used by the Civilization III: Play the World expansion pack.
Kodicom DVRs
In this second case, the BIX file is a video format used by Kodicom's closed-circuit television (CCTV) recorders.
Kodicom is a company specialized in Digital Video Surveillance Systems in the field of digital recording technologies established in South Korea.
The BIX file can be created by both stand-alone and PC-based DVR recorders.
The BIX file, in this application, is a closed media format that can only be played by systems developed by Kodicom.
