Open AV1 File

Its use is valid for both videos and images and supports several compression protocols, improving performance compared to the HEVC and HEIF standard, which are licensed codecs.

It is a codec, but not a multimedia container, therefore it should not be confused. This means that AV1 does not affect the format of the multimedia file, and for example an .mp4 container can have its video compressed with the AV1 codec, and in the eyes of the user, it will still be an MP4 file. The same is true for images.
